George Cooney Edwards

Hello! My name is George Cooney Edwards. The Humans named me that because I am a Maine Coon and as handsome as a certain TV star. Tee hee! I am about six years old now. The Humans are not sure, as I was fully grown when I came to them.

*This is me right after that! I was pretty sick, and scared as well. My former owner was a breeder and appurrently she did not need me fur that purrpose any more, so she decided to give me away. She furgot to tell my new humans I was sick, so they had to find out the hard way. I nearly died...thanks to them they got me to a v*t right away and got me well.

I've been here a little over a year now, and have settled in furry nicely.

Here is my picture as mascat fur the Kitty of the Month contest.

I hate to have my picture taken...the camera scares me! Dad sneaked up on me fur this one.
I would like to have a better one fur this page, but I just don't want to see that camera!

I am basically a furry laid-back guy, and get along pretty well with the other cats who live here.

The boys mostly leave me alone, as I don't react to threats. The girls, on the other hand, do intimidate me.
Tiffy tries to chase me out of the chair she wants by squeaking at me, and usually succeeds.
Goldie doesn't threaten, she just swats when she wants me to move. But don't even mention Taffy!
She chases me and makes me hide...she is furry scary!

I like to chase Catsy and Widgy. They are black and white, which is furry strange to me
because I was raised around kitties of a similar color to mine. I think they are aliens, so
I try to chase them away. Tee hee!

I love it when the humans pet me or comb my fur. I didn't get much if any petting in my old
home, so when Mom and Dad do it it makes me purr and drool.

I like being able to walk and run free around the house...
it's a great change from being cooped up in a cage like I used to be.

As far as food goes, I will eat just about anything and lots of it! I am a big boy...20 lbs.
the last time I was weighed. I probably weigh more now. I especially like chicken...
that's what Mom used to lure me from my hiding place when I first came here.

I have a job! Click on me and see!

* Our neighbor Barbara came to us and asked if we wanted a Maine Coon. A breeder she knew was giving two of them away...
she was taking one of them. We said sure, if it needed a home. So, she brought the breeder and the cat to us.
After talking to her for a few minutes we thought she should have been in the cage instead of the cat. She said she had too many males
and needed to get rid of them. We were only too happy to keep the kitty and send her on her way.

His name was Aspen, she had said, and we decided right away to change it as soon as a suitable name came to us.
At the time, though, he had run and hidden himself as soon as he was let out of the carrier. It took a few days before
we could even catch him. We finally did when he lost the use of his back legs. It was off to the vet right away.

After keeping him overnight, the vet said it looked like he had CRF (chronic renal failure) and the prognosis was not good. They kept
him for another night, then when I called about him the receptionist said it didn't look at all good. He hadn't eaten or moved. We went to
see him and decide what to do, but when we got there about an hour after our call he had eaten and seemed able to use his legs again.
The vet said he didn't have CRF after all, but he did have a bad urinary infection.

We brought him home with antibiotics and he's been well ever since, except for a recurrent problem with runny eyes.
We treat it, it goes away, then comes back.We think it's probably an allergy of some kind.

What do you say about a breeder who *gives away* a cat obviously worth money? I think she just didn't want to spend money for a vet.

Her loss, our gain, and George's too.*G*

Btw, the cat Barbara took was also sick, having diarrhea so badly she had to take him back after a week or two of it.

Poor kitty, I don't know what happened to him after that.
