This is the way I
want to remember Bubby...strong and healthy, with his big,
luxuriant coat.
I couldn't stand
the way he looked in his last days, nearly skin and bones, his
coat so thin you could practically see through it.
It didn't happen
all at once, although it seemed to. He had lost some weight before
we discovered he had diabetes,
but were assured
that he would gain it back with the insulin treatment. He did
indeed seem to respond to the treatment at first, but later began
losing weight again. This time the vet assured us that it was
bound to happen with the diabetes, but otherwise there was nothing
to worry about. As he continued to lose weight, although his
appetite was ravenous, we knew there was something more going on
with him than the diabetes. Finally I could no longer bear to look
at what a pathetic figure he had become, and we took him back to
the vet. We had to leave him, as the vet (a different one this
time) was in surgery and couldn't see him right away. We were told
to call later, which we did. Sadly, the vet told us that he had
passed away. They had tried to call us about having him put to
sleep, but he didn't wait for that. In spite of our sorrow at
losing him, we were relieved that he was finally free from his
pain. Apparently his kidneys were failing, among other things. We
also suspected cancer, although this wasn't confirmed.
Dear Bubby, we
will miss your sweet, funny presence...your gentle arm pats and
mews for attention...all the little
mannerisms that
were yours alone. There will never be another like you, and you
will never be forgotten.
Love
always,
Mommy and
Daddy
Bubby was a big
kitty...you can see where the chair doesn't quite fit
him.
In his favorite
place...couch arm next to where Tim sits.
The last picture taken
of him, about a year before he died.
His famous
Commissioner Billy-Bub pic.
Taken while he still
had one upright ear. You can read about what happened to
them on his page at KittyPrints.
